Abstract

This study aims at analyzing the possibility of private sector participation, through Public-Private Partnerships, as a way of guaranteeing dignified and efficient access to the public health service in Brazil, considering the problems faced by those who resort to the Unified Health System. To do so, we sought to systematize the information related to the topic, explaining its importance and the possibility of its use within the existing public health framework. It is worth noting that PPP’s will be presented as an executable alternative for the provision of the essential public service, in compliance with the principles of universality, equity and integrality, provided for in Law 8.080/1900, which regulates SUS. Beyond to the study about the concept, object of concession and also the modalities provided for in Law 11.079/2004, which deals with Public-Private Partnerships, a brief analysis will also be made on the Unified Health System panorama, presenting the its antecedents, the main problems and the possibility of the health services being provided in a complementary way by the private initiative, in accordance with the Federal Constitution.
