Ethics and plagiarism policy

MATRIZes has a firm commitment to academic integrity. In this sense, the editors seek to develop an integral relationship with authors, reviewers and others involved in the publication. The Journal is ready to receive criticisms and suggestions for improving its editorial processes. It adopts and recommends the following commitments and practices for each of its main agents:

Authors:

  • The authors are responsible for the work they wrote, and must ensure respect for the ethical standards of scientific research (no plagiarism, duly informed credits, etc.), as well as the ethical principles of the field of knowledge to which the study refers.
  • All researchers who made a significant contribution to a given manuscript must be credited as authors, adopting a hierarchy of authorship in order of contribution.
  • If any aspect of the work may cause questions about potential conflicts of interest, the author must declare, in a final note, that no links to funding bodies, as well as to commercial or political institutions, have been omitted. Likewise, mention should be made of the institution to which the author is eventually linked or that has collaborated in the execution of the study, showing that there are no conflicts of interest with the result now presented.
  • If the research whose manuscript is submitted to MATRIZes involves some type of experimentation with human beings, the author must inform that the work obeys the ethical procedures for scientific research of this type.
  • When an author perceives an error or inaccuracy in a work that he has published in MATRIZes, she/he must inform the editors so that the relevant corrections will be inserted and highlighted in the published article.

Reviewers:

  • Reviewers must inform the editors about any type of ethical deviation (plagiarism, work already submitted to another publication, etc.) that they perceive in the work evaluated.
  • Papers should be evaluated only based on criteria related to the scientific quality of the original (originality, relevance, contribution to the field of study, etc.), seeking to express in a clear, respectful and argued manner the reasons why they recommend approval or rejection.
  • Any reasons that prevent the objective evaluation of a manuscript by the evaluator should be communicated to the editors, who will cancel the review request, without any prejudice to the evaluator.
  • The impossibility of meeting deadlines or carrying out the evaluation must be communicated to the editors, who will take measures to preserve the work evaluation flow.

Publishers:

  • Submissions will be evaluated by anti-plagiarism software before going through the peer review process. Cases of plagiarism or self-plagiarism will prevent the original from being accepted by the Journal.
  • Suspicions that the papers submitted to MATRIZes perform any type of scientific misconduct, such as those described in the Código de Boas Práticas Científicas of FAPESP (data manufacturing and falsification, plagiarism, etc.), will give rise to the search for clarification and eventual cancellation of submission.
  • The reviewers are chosen on the basis of their expertise and knowledge in the area of the submitted work, seeking to avoid any type of conflict of interest or discrimination that could harm the evaluation based on criteria exclusively of scientific merit.
  • The Journal preserves the anonymity and confidentiality of the submission authors and their reviewers, in order to preserve the integrity of the review process.
  • Once the manuscript is accepted for evaluation, the Journal seeks to guarantee the best possible editorial flow, without any type of discrimination, and is willing to offer clarifications to the authors on the status of the submission.
  • If any published work receives a report of ethical deviation or imprecision, the Editorial Committee of the Journal will carry out an investigation, in consultation with the author. If the veracity of the complaint is observed, the Journal will adopt measures that can range from correction to exclusion from work.
