This study is part of the doctoral thesis of the author, and has as its theme the technical language of Tourism, and the object of study is the terminology of Tour Operating - one of the subareas of Tourism - in Italian. Tourism, as a human activity that involves political, economic, social, cultural and environmental dimensions, can be divided into different subsystems, according to the System of Tourism (Sistur) developed by Beni (1997). Among these, there is the Subsystem of Production, which has Tour Operating as one of its subfields, which the terms that were collected and subjected to the analysis presented here came from. A corpus of extraction has been formed, consisting of eight academic works focused on the graduate study of Tourism in Portuguese, English, Spanish and Italian. From this corpus 660 terms have been selected for each language, which were analyzed under the Communicative Theory of Terminology. Some of the results obtained in Italian are presented and discussed in this study, compared with Portuguese, English and Spanish. This research led to the following results regarding the Italian terms: transpositions of the common language; consistent influence of English and deep incidence of parasynonymy. It was therefore shown that the terminology of Tour Operating in Italian, as well as in the other investigated languages, does not respond to any attempts of standardizationDownloads
