Abstract

We discuss in this article one of the themes studied during our Doctorate thesis which main purpose was to realize a sense of identity regarding the nation, built by the Miniseries Grande Sertão: Veredas by means of genres and themes. The theoretical reference and the adopted procedures made possible to understand the articulation among literary genres, speech genres, televisual genres and thematic orientation within a perspective of historic construction of a sense of nation socially determined. In this article, we focus on one of the studied aspects in our research, in which we analyze it as a sort of missionary element in the series, given by discourses of directors, producers and by the specialized press in television. In this scenario, we’ve tried to figure out the social function of the series in the construction of a sense of nationality
by using discourses and televisual images that intended to show Brazil to Brazilians.
