The poetics of stalking in Sebastião Uchoa Leite

This study discusses aspects of Sebastião Uchoa Leite’s poetry. In addition to being a poet, he was a translator and essayist. He became one of those responsible for publicizing essential writers to the Brazilian public, especially his translations of Lewis Carroll, François Villon, and Stendhal. Uchoa Leite began his career as a poet by publishing his first book, Dez sonetos sem matéria (1960). The publication of his second book, composed of poems written from 1972 to 1979, took place only 19 years later, with Antilogia (1979). In this intercourse, which goes from his first phase with productions from the late 1950s to 1972, he also produced poems, which would only be published in the late 1980s, with the book Obra em dobras (1988). This study examines inflection points to understand his poetics constituted with originality, formal rigor, and experimentalism.
