Abstract

Turkish dizis, or Turkish dramas are weekly serials with lengthy episodes, whose stories are told with an unusual slowness, placing particular emphasis on heterosexual romance within the plots portrayed. This article examines the inherent slow pacing of the format and how romantic storylines are developed within these series. The analysis also highlights the distinctive features of the format, as well as the construction of a sensory and narrative eroticism that is characteristic of dizis.
