This present paper sought to reflect upon literature and its humanizing character in the context of society, making an approach using critic Antonio Candido’s thought the relation between literature and society, taking into account that man lives immersed in everyday life’s conflicts. The theoretical input focused on Antonio Candido’s contributions, among other theorists who share that thought. Lastly, under that perspective, we verified the social role and the reflective and emancipatory character of literature, contributing in an effective way as an object of humanization of the man who gets in touch with that literary aesthetic.
