Objective: this study aimed to analyze the sociodemographic and oral health factors associated with temporomandibular disorder (TMD) in Brazilian adults. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study performed with 407 adults, living in different regions of Brazil. We used a sociodemographic and oral health questionnaire, the Fonseca Anamnestic questionnaire and the OHIP-14 questionnaire. The instruments were applied online. Data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics (p<0.05). Results: It should be highlighted that 30.0% of the participants showed moderate to severe TMD, 35.1% showed mild TMD and 34.9% showed an absence of TMD. It should be underlined the higher frequency among women and individuals in the younger age groups with a higher degree of TMD (p=0.001); higher frequency of individuals who reported brushing their teeth one time or two times a day, having pain in TMJ, headache, tinnitus, chewing sounds, teeth grinding, snoring and sensitivity with a higher degree of TMD (mild and moderate/severe); higher frequency of individuals who reported good oral health perception with absence of TMD. Individuals
with moderate/severe degrees of TMD perceived themselves to have worse oral health-related
quality of life. Conclusion: We conclude that the presence of TMD is associated with gender,
age, pain in TMJ, headache and others oral health variables in Brazilian adults. We also conclude that individuals with moderate/severe TMD had a worse oral health-related quality of life.
