Although Mário de Andrade and the "modernists" began difining the concept of national identity in the so-called mineiro barroque after 1920, this topic is still controvertial in Brazilian art histpriography. yet it is fundamental to study the issue of originality in art produced in colonial Brazil considering its importation from Europe. This article provides an overview of how present research stands in relation to this theme and proposes new approaches and perspectives of analysis to its study.Downloads
