Abstract

Based on the relationships established between the traditional bandstands and the people with regard to memory and the collective, this work seeks to present the relationships between music, collectivity and belonging as elements for building an identity. For this study, using iconographic sources, we will use as a reference the music bands from the old municipality of Santo Amaro - SP, incorporated in the capital of São Paulo in 1935. With regard to the remains of the cultural heritage of the bands from the old municipality, we will use as a base the activities of the current Municipal Music Band in the city of Embu das Artes - SP.

Author Biography

  • José de Carvalho Oliveira, University of São Paulo

    Born in Matias Olímpio, Piauí, José de Carvalho holds a master's degree with research supported by the funding agency CAPES, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Paulo de Tarso Salles, in Theory and Analysis at the School of Communication and Arts of the University of São Paulo - ECA / USP (2019). He holds a degree in Music from the Centro Universitário Sant´Anna and since 2017 he has been a member of the teaching staff at that institution in the Bachelor and Music Degree courses. He is assistant editor of Revista Música - ECA / USP - SP and, as a researcher, belongs to the research group PAMVILLA, Analytical Perspectives for the Music of Villa-Lobos. Has published works in the field of Performance, Theory, Musical Analysis and Music Education. As a saxophonist he dedicates himself to the Brazilian and contemporary repertoire. He acts as a spalla and assistant conductor in the Municipal Band of Embu das Artes, SP, a city which he also develops, solid work as a coordinator at the Municipal School of Music since its implantation in 2014.
