Japanese manga (comics) and anime (cartoons) are an excellent
source of contact to Japanese culture, although they are still hardly seen as
artistic forms of expression adequate to investigation and popularization of
a given culture. This paper will present the main characteristics of those
genres, their relationship to Japanese culture and some influences they
exercise on today's Western culture.
