"Nobody can translate": the enigmatic work of John Ashbery in an international context

Abstract

The goal of this text is, first, to introduce John Ashberry, one of the most meaningful contemporary poets of the United States, to then, throught a few examples, define his "poetry of belatedness" (Harold Bloom). Subsequently, the paper inquires as to the reasons for the differences in the extent of Ashberry's recognition abroad, in addition to his work's reception in Germany, England , Australia, and South America.
