Abstract

Considering an editorial model for poetry by Pedro Homem de Mello (1904-1984), this paper focuses on the problem of the critical attribution of authority, whenever collaborative review and cultural appropriation occur. In line with the theoretical positions held by James Thorpe (1972) and Siegfried Scheibe (1995), among others, it argues that, from an editorial point of view, all versions sanctioned by the author are of equal importance. Therefore, instead of establishing a single-base text and presenting it as the most authentic reading, the ongoing project chooses a non-hierarchical treatment of various textual stages. This procedure, called versioning or multiple texts, will particularly benefit from the possibilities of the electronic hypertext, to combine different types of authority and present the user with alternative reading paths.
