This paper presents a translation into Portuguese of the poem "Un Sueño. A mi segundo hermano", by the Cuban poet Juan Francisco Manzano. The translation choices of some key points of the poem are discussed, taking into consideration the source and target languages, the context in which the poem was written, and the composition of the narrative on two levels of meaning, according to Pettway (2013), since Manzano's work can simultaneously address two readers, namely the white reader and the enslaved community.
