The objective of this paper is to identify and investigate the different types of phraseologisms around the taboo word cagar, present in Argentinean movies, and to analyze how they were translated into Brazilian Portuguese, in a parallel corpus of alternative subtitles. Our corpus of study is composed by five Argentinean movies, in which the River Plate Spanish prevails. The methodology adopted follows the assumptions of Corpus Linguistics, both for the compilation and for the analysis of the corpus, supported by the existing theoretical foundation in the area of Phraseology and Translation Studies. The results point to the productivity of meanings of the word cagar and to the importance of integrated consideration of syntactic-semantic aspects in analyses, which are essential for the proper perception of the senses in phraseologisms and their consequent translation.
