This article seeks to highlight performance art in Brazil as an artistic expression that predates the official nomenclature. It recognizes the 1980s as fundamental for the continuity of this practice and discusses initiatives that have established performance art as a constant expression in the national artistic universe, revising the contributions of Education professionals to this overview from self-managed organizations. The theoretical background relies on the works of artists and organizers of their works, such as Araújo (2012), Bezerra (2014), Castanheira (2018), and Vieira Jr (2016). The methodology is backed by our involvement with the universe of performance art in Brazil, and the network of artists that sustain it.
