The objective of this essay is to discuss some of the texts involved in the controversy titled “Literature
of Sodom,” with a particular focus on the texts of Raul
Leal. Our aim is to understand precisely how his work
Sodoma divinizada defends António Botto’s publication and how it came to be the target of harsh conservative criticisms, and why it remains such an important text for rethinking Portuguese queer literature and its repercussions.
