This article aims to present and briefly analyze the references to the poet Sappho and/or origin island, Lesbos, made in Shimmy – The Magazine of Modern Life, published in Rio de Janeiro, between 1925 and 1933. Taking into consideration that, within the above-mentioned magazine scope, those mentions invariably appear associated with the lesboerotism subject matter, the objective is to understand the functionality of this association, longing to contribute towards a historicism of this bond between the poet and/or her island and the lesboerotism theme, in Brazil. That connection is still recurrent nowadays, not only in Brazil, but whose manifestations more systematically at national level seem to date back to the early XX century.
