Abstract

This article discusses the occultation of the feminine in the novel Lavoura arcaica, underlining the indispensability of the narrative framing to the maintenance of patriarchal Law. It argues that the dance performed by Ana has political consequences, which motivate the masculinist elaboration of speech. Reporting to the Oedipal Complex, it contests the hypothesis that conceives André as the transgressor in order to locate him in consonance with phallocentric politics. Having as main reference Judith Butler, this text dimensionates the inevitability, fabricated and imposed by the Law, of feminine silence and, hence, of the political consequences caused by such subjectivity when freed.
