Literature and culture themes: the challenges of literary education in the East timorese education system

Abstract

This paper presents the syllabus of a new course, Literature and Culture Themes, that, since January 2012, joined the Curricular Component of Social Sciences and Humanities of East Timorese General Secondary Education, as a result of curricular restructuring project carried out by a team coordinated by Professor Isabel P. Martins, from the University of Aveiro (Portugal). It presents the principles that guided the creation of the syllabus and explains the curricular choices made during this process. The text also analyses the implementation development on the ground, the main difficulties founded and it anticipates some of the future challenges for the development of literary education in a country with no tradition of teaching literature at the secondary level of education.

  • Ana Margarida Ramos, Universidade de Aveiro
    Doutora em Literatura e professora auxiliar do Departamento de Línguas e Culturas da Universidade de Aveiro, onde leciona disciplinas da área da Literatura Portuguesa e da Literatura para a Infância. Integra o Centro de Investigação em "Didática e Tecnologia na Formação de Formadores" (CIDTFF), da Universidade de Aveiro. Tem apresentado várias comunicações em colóquios e congressos nacionais e internacionais. Integrou a equipa que concebeu o projeto CASA DA LEITURA da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. Integra, como investigadora, a equipa da Rede Temática de Investigação Ibérica «As Literaturas Infantis e Juvenis do Marco Ibérico e Iberoamericano» (www.usc.es/lijmi/). Integrou um projeto de Reestruturação do Ensino Secundário em Timor-Leste, no âmbito do qual coordenou a equipa responsável pela disciplina de Temas de Literatura e Cultura, cujos materiais pedagógicos também realizou em coautoria. Publicou vários livros, dos quais se destacam Livros de Palmo e Meio – Reflexões sobre literatura para a infância (Caminho, 2007), Literatura para a Infância e Ilustração: leitura em diálogo (Tropelias & Companhia, 2010) e Tendências contemporâneas da literatura portuguesa para a infância (Tropelias & Companhia, 2012).
