AIDS is a subject frequently discussed by the work of Bernardo Carvalho. On his novel As iniciais it is possible to identify descriptions and several metaphors present on the book which point to the presence of the disease. Before a situation of strong physical and emotional upheaval, as the confirmation of a serious illness, the metaphor is presented on the novel as a viable way to verbalize such incommunicable and incomprehensible experience.
