Abstract

This research aimed to get to know the way of life of eight homeless individuals, users of licit and illicit substances, between 21 and 50 years old, going through a resocialization process in a non-governmental organization: Associação Nova Aliança - A.N.A., in Cascavel, Paraná, Brazil, in 2003. This qualitative and descriptive study was based on the theoretical principles of psychosocial rehabilitation that emerged from the Psychiatric Reform Movement. The data were collected through three guiding questions and subject to qualitative analysis in view of the theoretical reference framework. This study evidenced the need to prioritize the social and economic aspects of the resocialization process in order to improve the affective, social and economic contractualism and, consequently, the individuals autonomy.
