Care Practices in a Psychosocial Care Center for Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs

Abstract

Objectives: To identify and analyze the representations the professionals from a psychosocial care center for alcohol and other drugs construct about care practices developed at the institution. METHODS: We interviewed nine professionals from a referral center for alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, at the city of Sao Paulo. Data were subjected to content analysis, supported by the theoretical and methodological social representation. RESULTS: by analysing the emerging themes it were elaborated the central representation of the research: practical assistance to users with disorders caused by harmful use and alcohol and other drugs dependence. Conclusion: professionals in psychosocial care center for alcohol and other drugs have procedures for caring for the user of alcohol and other drugs, which vary with the level of attention and needs of each, and those are developed through therapeutic projects. Thus, care should be planned by an interdisciplinary team, considering that the harmful use of alcohol and other drugs are the result of multifaceted factors, which should guide and be part of these projects.
