Tourism Demand Models (TDM) have been a useful working tool for institutions related to tourism development since the 1960s, although in Brazil the first studies about tourists’ profiles began to emerge in the 1980s. Minas Gerais State’s Government has carried out TDMs since 2006 with the goal of gathering information regarding the state visitors’ profile and, from these data, focusing tourism public policies. This paper begins with a theoretic background which covers mainly two very important aspects on Minas Gerais’ TDMs: the regionalization of the tourism market in Routes, and how the models carried out in Minas Gerais are framed regarding studies done elsewhere. The development of the paper shows the evolution of the studies done at the state, the main challenges – faced and yet to be faced –, how the TDM has helped orienting public policies and, lastly, future perspectives on the theme.Downloads
