Résumé

The aim of the present article is to debate aspects of the actuation of the first samba artists within the context in which they were inserted in the cultural production of the period, based on a bibliography about the formation of samba and its consolidation as the Brazilian urban song of the beginning of the century. The text attempts to highlight the strategic character of this actuation and to deconstruct certain notions that give the formation of samba a romanticized interpretation that does not pay enough attention to the capacity of intervention and organization of these samba artists within the cultural scene of their time.
