Abstract

As a result of a through analysis of works dealing with the subject, the author acknowledges the innovating influence of Zeami in the development of nô, mainly in the performance of female characters. The essay, is also concerned with the development of the art of miming in kabuki, showing the important place occupied by players who have delicated themselves to feminine roles.
