Experiments were carried out, in which NADH is directly oxidized by baker’s yeast subcellular particles. It was shown by electronmicroscopy that such activity is linked to the mitochondrial granules which appear to be associated to a net of microssomial membranes. The rate of NADH oxidation measured as oxygen uptake is rate limited by NADH concentration. NADH is specific to this reaction, since the preparation is completely inactive in the presence of NADPH.
