By analizing both historical and archaeological data this article aims to investigate the Inca presence in the lower Madre de Dios River. Whilst archaeological evidence suggests that Inca presence in the region was rather limited, historical documents indicate that the Incas were relatively successful when submitting local groups, although it was only achieved by indirect control.Downloads
