The question concerning the distribution of the cultural units involved in the construction of sambaquis has been in the constant focus of the debates in Brazilian archaeology. In this paper, we systematize the available data related to the distribution of the sites and the material culture as well as present a model to explain the settlement of the Brazilian coast, supported on the results of that systematization and the sum of the merging points of preexisting models.Downloads
