This work results from a ten year reflection that found its explanatory axis during the elaboration of the anthropological report on the Maxakali indians, concluded in 1992. We intend to develop here considerations on the possibility of an unity among subgroups which were traditionally viewed as differentiated groups by anthropologists, historians and travellers. It is not a conclusive work, but a proposal for an interdisciplinary study that starting from the model presented here, could help in widening the reflection on similar ethnographic situations in other areas of Brasil.Downloads
