Abstract

The expansion of São Paulo city was characterized by channelling streams and rivers with the aim of making room for the support infrastructure to production and movement of goods. On the opposite to what might be imagined, the way the University of São Paulo dealt with the waters, during the urbanization of its campus in Butantã, was not different than the way Brazilian cities dedicated to its rivers and streams. This article describes the history of the streams present at that campus and investigates the existence of a legendary hidden stream that passes through the surrounding area of the FAU (Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism) buildings.
