Abstract

In this essay, the author takes a look over aspects of translation activity through reflection on themes embedded in the making of Winston Smith, the major character of Orwell's Nineteen Eighty Four, and his role as a worker in the Ministry of TruthThus, the author grapples with ideas concerning the hermeneutics of translation and the amalgamation of affective, political and intellectual issues regarding translation, all of them put into jeopardy in the novel under the advent of Newspeak language.
