Abstract

Taking as its starting point the controversies about the recent creation of baccalaureates in art history in Brazilian public universities, this article has as its central object the institutional and epistemological disputes between the scientific communities of historians and art historians. The problematization of art histories produced in Brazilian universities are fundamental to the debate about what is understood by art history in Brazil today and are directly related to the maturation and consolidation of the autonomy of art history as a scientific field in the country. For this, they are used as sources: interviews; official documents produced by the two scientific communities in dispute; and documents related to the procedure of PL 4699/2012, which regulates the profession of historian.
