Abstract

In this work, we support the idea of a Historical Epistemology of Mathematics by establishing a filiation Hegel – Bachelard – Cavaillès – Lautman. We propose to analyse three historical types of Galois theories formulated from the 1830s to the 2000s, which we name: 1) heuristic Galois theories, 2) structural Galois theories and 3) categorical Galois theories. To do that, we use ‘’historical operators’’, in particular those of Cavaillès – ‘’paradigm’’ and ‘’thematization’’ – and we analyse the links of our approach with the Historical Epistemology of Bachelard, which we contribute to renew.
