Abstract

The so called sensual funk is part of the juvenile culture in Rio de Janeiro. Valesca Popozuda is one of its main stars, widely known through different media. The female voices from the funk call attention for lyrics that narrate achievements and fantasies that clash from the images destined for women. These voices present existences repressed by phallocentrism, prevailing on narratives about love, sex and life in the city. Their political and cultural aspects have been recently studied and debated. Conventional politics has also aroused for the popular culture from peripheries. The article reminds two moments when Lula and Valesca Popozuda met each other in 2008 and 2009. Two situations that created the opportunity for her to give to the president (at that time) lyrics that discussed the slums, funk, youth and still the possibility for her being the Ministry of Education. The article discusses the intromission of the funk female voices from sensual funks in the life of cities as a significant politically agency through the produced interpellations. Throughout the tradition of Cultural Studies, the article aims at problematizing power through a popular creation on the city circuit.
