Abstract

In the nineteenth century, a large number of police forces were created worldwide. These forces reflected a development model that spread with trade and technological innovations as well as with economic and demographic growth. This article approaches the formation of the police in São Paulo through a transnational viewpoint, but with an awareness of local specificities and interactions with other police forces specially in Latin America
