Abstract

Photoentrainment is a process that depends on the activity of photosensitive proteins. Throughout the evolutionary process many different photosensitive proteins arose, but just a few have a role in photoentrainment. Therefore the purpose of this text is to exploit photoentrainment and the active photoreceptor proteins related to the process. The mechanism of action of photosensitive proteins will be emphasized, as well as the differences between visual and entrainment processes. In conclusion, it will be explained how the light/dark cycle is able to adjust circadian rhythms to the environmental 24 hours of the day
