Synthetic Biology, mainly because of the techniques developed, has acquired distinct attention among scientists, environmentalists, political as well as the society after the more significant accomplishment until then: creation of the first living organism controlled by a synthetic genome; i.e., the bacterium Mycoplasma mycoides JCVI-syn1.0. Therefore, the focus of this study was to undertake a review of the literature on synthetic biology with the aim of identifying existing possibilities and challenges. Thus, the data were collected from indexed publications in electronic databases; the data analysis revealed that there are possibilities for practical applications for industry, environment, and human health; but these possibilities will be accompanied by significant challenges.Downloads
