Fator de transcrição nuclear Kappa B no sistema nervoso central: do Fisiológico ao Patológico

Descoberto inicialmente em linfócitos T, o fator de transcrição nuclear kappa B (NF-kB) tem sido descrito em todas as células de mamíferos, regulando a expressão de diversos genes, principalmente aqueles relacionados à resposta imunológica e inflamatória. No sistema nervoso central, a regulação da expressão gênica pelo NF-kB é de particular importância já que este fator pode estar envolvido tanto em condições fisiológicas (sinapse, desenvolvimento e plasticidade neural) como em condições patológicas que ocasionam em morte celular. Nesta revisão vamos descrever as duas principais vias de ativação do NF-kB e a participação deste fator em diferentes processos do sistema nervoso central.
