This paper is part of a large study to assess the adequacy of using multivariate statistical techniques in theses and dissertations at some higher education institutions in the marketing area of consumer behavior between 1997 and 2006. This paper focuses on factor analysis, a technique with great potential for use in marketing studies. The objective of this paper was to analyze the adequacy of this technique for the requirements of research problems presented in these theses and dissertations as well as to measure the success level in terms of the assumptions. Overall, results suggest the need for more involvement by the researchers to verify all the theoretical precepts for the application of the factor analysis technique.Downloads
