SYSTEMATIC INNOVATION APPLIED TO INDUSTRIAL POLYMERIZATION SYSTEMS
Keywords:
TRIZ, systematic innovation, polymerization, productivity, contradiction.Abstract
Consider an industrial system designed to perform exothermic polymerization reactions using a reactor chain along which the temperature must be maintained below ten degrees Celsius to ensure the proper final properties of the polymer produced. The system faces a second critical factor in the tendency of the polymer to adhere on all contact surfaces along the reactors chain, damaging the thermal energy exchange. How to increase the productivity of this system keeping all product specifications without intensive investment? The usual solutions, such as the inclusion of new reactors, would break one or more of the restrictions. This challenge sets up an opportunity for the typical application of the TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) tools and concepts. This article will demonstrate such tools application in a structured way identified as Systematic Innovation, seeking to generate inventive solutions that meet all the conditions imposed.
