THE PROCESS OF STRUCTURING RESOURCES IN THE CONTEXT OF A ACADEMIC NEW TECHNOLOGY-BASED FIRM (ANTB)

Abstract

The success of a firm is result of the configuration of its resources and the way it use them to produce goods and services efficiently, this two dimensions are nominated structural and dynamic respectively. Although the literature about this two dimensions in the conventional firms is wide, this topic is still underexplored in the context of emergence of academic spin of firms. Given this theoretical gap, this article aims to analyze the process of structuring resources in academic spinoff, at different stages of emergence of the business. As a methodological strategy, it was used the case study, in a successful firm of the biotechnology field, through individual interviews, which allowed to select and analyze data pertaining to the topic from the perspective of the Resource Based View (RBV). For this specific case was observed  that the emergence of a academic spinoff depends mainly of successful meeting on complementary expertise in technical, managerial and marketing, besides the important social capital of the entrepreneurs founders and the establishment of procedures of monitoring the environment. The main contribution of this study is to identify the main elements for the development process of this firm.
