Long narratives, return home and literary pleasure

This article is the result of two conferences on literature held at the São Paulo State Secretariat of Finance and Planning, as a way to disseminate and encourage the participation of civil servants in the Reading Circle of the State of São Paulo. The Reading Circle is a proposal that was born as an initiative of its own servants, with the aim of developing subjectivity and awakening the affections of its participants. In this article, as a result of discussions on works exclusively of epic genre, such as Homer's Odyssey, Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and Michael Ende's The Neverending Story, we intend to debate how the creation and reading of stories of this genre contribute, since the ancients, for the improvement of man, considering aspects of the human condition itself, and are an invaluable source of pleasure.
