Abstract

We analyze in this article the tales "Galo sang in the bay", by Manuel Lopes (1936), and "A thief" (1939), by Graciliano Ramos. Considering that in that historical moment literature was a privileged space in the public sphere to promote urgent debates in favor of populations that lived in situations of extreme vulnerability, we approach, from the perspective of the narrative focus, the discursive strategies employed by the authors then clearly oriented and engaged politicaly.
