Abstract

The article examines Freud’s contribution to aesthetics and the dialogue between his work and contemporary art. The Uncanny (Das Unheimliche), published in 1919, text in which the psychoanalyst analyzes the short story "The Sandman" and the novel The Devil’ Elixir, by the writer E.T.A Hoffmann, is the main thread for this analysis, as well as for all aesthetic inspirated by psychoanalysis.
