Abstract

Institutional repositories are databases that aim to store the scientific output of an institution. In this context, self-archiving is the mechanism of deposit in institutional repositories recommended by the open access movement to scientific information, by following the strategies of Green Road. Self-archiving is held by the author. The adoption of self-archiving by institutions aims to guarantee deposits in institutional repositories, so that the quantity of their documents is maximized. Reasons that may prevent self-archiving: ignorance on the part of the authors about the open access movement, on issues related to copyright, the process of peer review, the impact of the work in open access, among other factors. This research intends to verify the existence of self-archiving policies in Brazilian and Portuguese institutional repositories, as well as the identification of materials to support the author to carry out such activity. For the study there were considered the Brazilian and Portuguese repositories registered in the Directory of Open Access Repositories - OpenDOAR.
