The presence of university publishers in the collections of institutional repositories

Institutional repositories have played an important role in disseminating scientific output of educational institutions and research expanding the visibility of both the author and the institution. Nowadays, technological advances have enabled both the insertion of university publishers in the use of digital editing processes and the increased visibility, accessibility, usage and impact of books. University publishers have a key role to promote the diffusion of scientific production and are characterized by covering all areas of knowledge, publishing quality texts, peer-reviewed and written by researchers with different institutional affiliations. The present study aims to verify the compliance of publishers to the open access movement to scientific information through the presence of titles published in collections of IR. The objective is also to know the policy of publishers and institutions focused on deposit of books and chapters in these repositories. To do so, it has been selected 31 repositories from universities and research institutions as the sample, having as criteria the availability in their collections of books and book chapters. The repository of the Federal University of Bahia (Universidade Federal da Bahia) stands out by providing the largest number of books and chapters - 307 items - followed by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária) with 120. It is concluded that the participation of the production of university presses is still timid in the collections of IR, and in most institutions, there is no formal policy on the provision of open access content.
