Abstract

This report aims to present the experience of a group of professors developing what we call “reverse teaching process” in a discipline in the Teaching and Bachelor’s degree in Nursing at EERP-USP Nursing school. Our undergraduate course is based on the professional qualification within the historical-critical perspective. This methodology is grounded on the acknowledgement of social practice, problematization, ownership of knowledge and social change. This methodology advocates five steps: a) immersion in the context; b) provisional synthesis; c) search of information/knowledge; d) new synthesis; e) assessment. Those steps are recorded by undergraduate students from a critical-reflexive approach, within the university official recording platform Stoa-USP. We propose an inversion of the mainstream teaching sequence. Instead of studying content, previously established in the university classroom, and then going to the practice in the field, students build up learning questions from their experience in the field. Undergraduate students are placed in an active position in terms of a reflexive construction of their knowledge. Such methodology empowers undergraduate students to develop indispensible skills for their education as licensed nurses in the professional context of primary education. This methodology also highlights the crucial role of the university professor throughout the process, leading discussions and articulating the experience brought up by undergraduate students with the discipline objectives, converting it into actual learning.
