Abstract

The innovation of the promotion of oral health care was based on the implementation of an expanded oral health clinic in primary health care (PHC), from the perspective of comprehensiveness. This is a multicenter project, developed in Health Care Units aiming to understand the space of this clinic as a pedagogic locus, having as reference the National Curricular Guidelines and the National Oral Health Policy. This research brings the experience held in São Paulo and Ribeirão Preto, where Universidade de São Paulo students were included, covering the two phases of the project: the participant observation of the work in the units and the expanded oral clinical experimental activity. In order to investigate the meaning that students and preceptors attributed to this experience, a qualitative study method was chosen including interviews, field diaries and portfolio, which subsidized the interpretation of the results, based on the knowledge acquired through the experience. The reports deal with the event “the experience of expanded clinic in formative process with its consequent production of care”. Constituent pedagogical elements in the teachinglearning process were searched from the narrated facts emerged, which in themselves demonstrated sensitivity in their selection and their relevance to pedagogical intentionality for the production of a reflective, autonomous and responsible knowledge and practice. Students became familiar with routines, creating new practical possibilities, other perceptions, languages, interests and forms of organization (especially in relation to the academic structure). They recognized that PHC services are opened to the conflicts and contradictions of life in society, feeling the complexity that PHC itself and the educational institution are endowed with.
