This article explores the hypothesis of how the changes in the connection between drug retail and wholesale trafficking could be decisive to understand the recent urban violence crisis in Rio de Janeiro. We believe that the territorial dimensions of drug trafficking would be better recognized through a business and social perspective, where ideological judgments are derived from its observation instead of the opposite. The application of the concept of governance could reveal the process: the territory is produced by the conflictuous interaction of different social actors, redefining the acceptable conditions to the existence of drug trafficking in Rio de Janeiro.Downloads
